WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON –The winters in Wellington County can make road and weather conditions a challenge for all drivers. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wants to remind motorists to drive according to road and weather conditions. The conditions can change suddenly and being prepared is important. Many of the collisions officers have investigated this winter may have been prevented if drivers simply slowed down. 

Some Safety Tips to Remember

  • Keep an eye on the weather and if travel is not required, stay home
  • Ensure you vehicle is winter ready and has received regular maintenance
  • Plan your trip and check weather conditions
  • Notify a family member or friend of your destination and potential arrival time
  • Slow down - Take your time and create distance between vehicles
  • Do not pass winter maintenance vehicles
  • If you are not comfortable driving, don’t drive
  • Have extra windshield fluid and at least half a tank of gas
  • Take the time the clear the vehicle of snow and ice
  • Have an Emergency Kit –battery jumper cables, first aid kit, shovel, multi-tool, blanket, extra clothing, non-perishable food, flashlight, ice scrapper, cell phone
