Break and enter suspect found with axe in his pants

On Jan. 20, 2020 at 2 p.m., an adult male attempted to break into a secured room at the Drop In Centre in the City of Guelph by using a screw driver.

At 2:57 p.m., police observed the male walking out front of the Drop In Centre. The male ignored numerous instructions from police to stop and started walking faster.

At 2:59 p.m., the male was located a short distance away and was subsequently arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed a black-handled axe approximately one foot in length tucked into his waistband.

A 50-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Break and enter with intent (attempt)
    •    Possess break-in instruments
    •    Obstruct police
    •    Carrying concealed weapon

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on Jan. 21, 2020.
