Vehicle rams police cruiser, flees area — updated

On December 12, 2016 at 1 a.m., the Guelph Police received a report that a possible impaired driver had been driving erratically in the area of Paisley Road at Imperial Road and eventually became stuck in the snow on Paisley just east of the Hanlon Pkwy.

When police arrived, the driver of the vehicle reversed quickly and rammed into the passenger side of a police vehicle.

The police vehicle received moderate damage to the front and rear passenger doors and the side airbags were deployed. The suspect vehicle received damage to the rear driver’s side corner.

The vehicle then fled the area failing to stop for police. A brief low speed pursuit ensued but was quickly called off for safety reasons.

Update:

Investigation led to the identity of the driver. On December 13, 2016 Waterloo Regional Police attended a Cambridge address on the request of Guelph Police and arrested the driver.

The 32-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with fail to stop, dangerous driving, flight from police and breach of probation. 

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive – no licence. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on December 13, 2016.
