Cambridge man charged in relation to string of Guelph break-ins

Businesses targeted for cigarettes and lottery tickets in Waterloo, Hamilton and Guelph, resulting $100,000 in property damage and $150,000 in product loss

On April 11, 2019, members of Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Break, Enter and Auto Theft (BEAT) unit arrested a male at a Guelph area hotel. This arrest is a result of an ongoing investigation into commercial break and enters, where businesses were targeted for cigarettes and lottery tickets in Waterloo Region, Hamilton and Guelph. As a result of the break and enters, approximately $100,000 was caused in property damage and approximately $150,000 in product loss. In partnership with Hamilton Police Service’s Break and Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (BEAR) Branch, police were able to identify the suspect.

A 52-year-old Cambridge male has been arrested and charged with numerous offences, including break and enter, possession of break and enter instruments, possession of stolen property and possession of controlled substances.

Guelph incidents:

On Nov. 15, 2018, the Guelph Police went a Gordon Street store for a break and enter. The culprit(s) gained entry sometime overnight, by going through an exterior wall. A theft of tobacco products and cash is reported.

On March 29, 2019, at 5:57 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a business in the plaza located at 666 Woolwich St. for a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime between 1 and 3 a.m. and stole tobacco products and lottery tickets.

On April 2, 2019, the Guelph Police went to two York Road businesses for reported break and enters. The culprit(s) smashed a window to gain entry to the one business and then went through the adjoining wall to access the other sometime overnight. A theft of tobacco products is reported.

On April 5, 2019, the Guelph Police went a Victoria Road North store for a break and enter. The culprit(s) gained entry sometime overnight, to an adjacent business and then went through the wall to access the store. A theft of tobacco products is reported.
