Centre Wellington RIDE check leads to impaired charge for Waterloo man

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On May 8, 2021, at approximately 10:25 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. spot checks on Wellington Road 18 in Centre Wellington Township. Police investigated the driver of a motor vehicle that entered into the checkpoint.

As a result, Scott Porteous, 41 years old of Waterloo, has been charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph at a later date.
