Charges laid following police cruiser incident

Police did not pursue the vehicle for public safety reasons

On Jan. 10, 2018 the Guelph Police Service reported an incident where two unknown males were suspects in an incident that involved a police cruiser being rammed and a vehicle fleeing the scene. Police did not pursue the vehicle for public safety reasons.

On Jan. 14, 2018 the vehicle driven by the suspects was recovered on Waterloo Avenue. On Jan. 16, 2017 the alleged passenger of the vehicle that fled, Kyle Benoit, a 25-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, occupant of a stolen vehicle and breaching a condition on his order of recognizance. He was held for a bail hearing.

On Jan. 18, 2017 the alleged driver of the vehicle that fled, Jason Fernandes, a 31-year-old Guelph male, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, flight from police, dangerous driving and two counts of breaching his probation order. He was also held for a bail hearing.
