Christmas Eve vehicle check results in drug charge

On Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Highway 6, Guelph. At approximately 12:30 a.m. the driver of a black Saturn sedan entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the female driver, officers detected the odour of freshly burnt marijuana and suspected the driver was in the possession of a controlled substance. Search incident to arrest revealed the driver was in possession of cocaine.

Twenty-year-old Selina Phu Nguyen of Centre Wellington has been charged with possession of cocaine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Jan. 19, 2018 to answer to the charge.
