Citizen calls lead to multiple charges

The accused attempted to use a false name with police and was found to be breaching several conditions

On Sept. 6, 2016 at 12:14 p.m., the Guelph Police received multiple calls about a male checking car door handles in the area of McGee Street and Emslie Street. The male was located in the area of Yorkshire Street and Bristol Street. He was known to police and there were warrants for his arrest.

As police attempted to arrest him, he became combative and ran. After a short foot pursuit he was arrested. The male attempted to use a false name with police and was found to be breaching several conditions. Search subsequent to arrest discovered a small quantity of Clonazepam pills.

A 31-year-old Guelph man has been charged with six counts of breach of recognizance, two counts of breach of probation, obstruct police, possession of a controlled substance and fail to re-attend court. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on Sept. 7, 2017.
