Suspect found by staff after breaking in

At approximately 5:15 a.m. this morning, a staff member at the County of Wellington received an alarm notification at one of their Woolwich Street properties and went into work to check on the premise.

When he arrived at work and began walking through the building, he came across a male that had pried open a door to get inside the building.

The male had a number of laptop computers and attempted to flee, only to be cornered by the staff member in another corridor. Police were called and took the man into custody without incident.

While in custody, it was learned that an unrelated investigation had identified this same male as the person responsible for a theft incident at a Willow Road store from March 7.

The 43-year-old Guelph man was further charged with theft as well as break and enter, possession of break and enter tools and mischief under $5,000 in relation to this incident.

He was held in custody and is to appear in bail court today.
