On Monday, Dec. 24, 2018 Guelph police reported that there was a break and enter to an automotive shop on Speedvale Avenue West. Police initiated an investigation into the theft of equipment from that shop. As part of the investigation, police were able to identify a vehicle, Ford F150, which was involved in the break and enter.
Shortly after the break and enter, police attempted to stop a Ford F150 in the area of Woolwich Street and Stull Avenue. The truck fled from police at a high rate of speed. Police did not pursue due to a concern for public safety, as it was mid day. The F150 was eventually located unoccupied.
As a result of a joint effort between the Guelph Police Service (break, enter and auto theft) team, the Waterloo Regional Police Service B.E.A.T. team and the Guelph Police Service H.E.A.T. (High Enforcement Action Team), on Jan. 17, 2019 at approximately 6 p.m., a 45-year-old Guelph male was arrested in relation to the break and enter and flight from police.
Immediately after the arrest, police located approximately $4,950 worth of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine and fentanyl. Furthermore, the male was found to be on a probation order relative to break and enter charges.
Lastly, Guelph Police Service B.E.A.T. team executed a search warrant on a residence related to the investigation and located thousands of dollars worth of allegedly stolen property, including numerous power tools and construction equipment.
In total, the 45-year-old Guelph male is facing the following charges:
- Break, enter and commit
- Flight from peace officer
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Fail to comply with probation order
The male was held for a bail hearing, which occurred on the morning of Jan. 18, 2019.
Police have several items to sort through and determine rightful ownership of. Guelph police will be following up with a media release relative to items recovered.
