DNA used to make arrest in downtown break and enter

Arrest made in relation to November break and enter that saw $17,000 worth of items stolen

A Guelph male faces charges after he was linked by DNA to a break and enter to a downtown business.

On Nov. 2 employees of a business in the downtown area arrived for work to find a door kicked in and the business ransacked. Approximately $17,000 worth of items including electronics, cash and gift cards were reported stolen.

Guelph police collected evidence from the scene which was submitted to the Centre of Forensic Science for DNA analysis. The sample was found to match a male in the national DNA data bank.

A 38-year-old Guelph male was located in the downtown area approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday and arrested for break, enter and commit theft. He will appear in a Guelph court March 15.
