A Guelph man faces aggravated assault and other charges following a stabbing downtown Thursday morning.
Approximately 10:30 a.m. two men met in an alleyway on Wyndham Street North and began arguing over an electric scooter. The argument turned into a physical altercation, during which one of the men was stabbed in the neck and began to bleed profusely. He sought care at a nearby medical building, where staff called 911.
The victim, a 41-year-old Guelph man, was transported to a Hamilton trauma centre in serious condition.
Closed-circuit security cameras installed downtown earlier this year and officers in our new Community Safety Operations Centre played crucial roles in identifying a suspect.
Approximately two hours after the stabbing a 50-year-old Guelph man was located at St. George’s Square and arrested. He is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was held for a bail hearing Friday.
