Driver charged after vehicle clocked travelling more than 50 km/h over speed limit

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at approximately 2 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, near Ponsonby. The officer observed a male driving a newer model sedan at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

Thirty-three-year-old Muhammad Abrar Aslam of Milton has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on April 4, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
