Driver charged with impaired after cutting off cruiser, police say

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Thursday, May 16, 2019 at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was responding to a call for service in Mount Forest.

Near the intersection of Queen Street and John Street, the police cruiser was cut off by another motor vehicle. The officer had to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The officer followed the vehicle to an address on John Street.

While speaking with the driver, police formed the opinion that they were under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Nineteen-year-old Nicholas James Wells of Mount Forest has been charged with operating motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 21, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at approximately 5:45 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Fergus. Police located the driver and vehicle on Princess Street shortly after receiving the initial call.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that they were impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Shane B. Fisher, 40 years old of Fergus, has been charged with Impaired operation of a motor vehicle and Impaired operation - 80mg plus of alcohol per 100mL of blood.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on June 25, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Saturday, May 11, 2019, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Concession 7 in Puslinch Township. At approximately 3:30 p.m., the driver of a motor vehicle entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that they were under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result, Jeffery Piche, 47-years-old of the Township of Puslinch, has been charged with;

  • Impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code.
  • Driving while suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on June 14, 2019.
