Driver charged with impaired after getting pinned under motorcycle: Police

Second driver faces impaired charges in unrelated incident

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On Oct. 11, 2019 at approximately 9:20 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a motorcycle tipping into the ditch and the rider was pinned underneath of it on Wellington Road 124 near Wellington Road 29.

Officers arrived just east of the scene and observed the rider about to enter into a motor vehicle. Police spoke with the rider and formed the opinion that they were under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The rider was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Paul Rice, 67 years old of Guelph, has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on Nov. 19, 2019 to answer to the charge.

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Oct. 13, 2019 at approximately 10 p.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a pickup truck that was stopped on the shoulder of Wellington Road 34 with its hazard lights on.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device (ASD) test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Martin Williams, 37 years old of Georgetown, has been charged with impaired operation and impaired operation - 80 plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on Nov. 15, 2019 to answer to the charges.
