NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH POLICE SERVICE

On Aug. 8, 2020 at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Guelph Police Service were directing traffic at a road closure at the intersection of Speevale Avenue West and Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. The road was closed for overnight paving operations.

Two officers were directing traffic on foot when they observed a motor vehicle travelling eastbound on Speedvale Avenue approaching the road closure and directed the driver to turn away from the clearly marked road closure. The driver failed to turn and veered around one officer before driving though a line of barricade barrels. An officer was able to run to a police cruiser and upon stopping the motor vehicle found the driver apparently impaired by alcohol.

A 29-year-old Guelph male has been charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired blood alcohol concentration.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Sept. 8, 2020.
