On the evening of Dec. 2, a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback became stuck off the roadway in the ditch after the female driver attempted to make a U-turn in the area of Speedvale Avenue and Elmira Road. Police were called and the vehicle was still stuck when police arrived.
When the driver was spoken to, it appeared her ability to operate the vehicle was impaired by alcohol and there was also a partially consumed container of alcohol in the vehicle.
Angela Shiry, a 54-year-old Kitchener resident, was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor and operate a motor vehicle- over. 08mgs. She was later released to appear in a Guelph court at a later date.
