On Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, a Guelph Police Traffic unit was monitoring speeds of motor vehicles on Victoria Road South. At approx. 9:35 p.m., police observed a white 2013 Nissan Altima to be travelling at an excessive speed northbound on Victoria Road South toward the Victoria Road South and York Road intersection. Radar showed that the vehicle was travelling 122km/h in the posted 50km/h zone (72 km/h over the speed limit). Police were able to stop the vehicle safely.

An interaction with the driver led to police suspecting that the driver had recently consumed alcohol. The driver subsequently registered a fail on an approved roadside screening device and was taken to the Police Station for additional tests. While at the Police Station, it was determined that the driver had double the legal limit of alcohol in her body.

A 23-year-old Cambridge female was charged with operate motor vehicle – over 80mgs, speeding – 122km/h in a 50 km/h zone, and stunt driving – drive at a rate of speed 50km/h or more over the speed limit.

The driver was given a 90-day administrative driver’s license suspension and the vehicle being driven was impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
