Driver faces impaired charge

GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On Aug. 19, 2017 at approximately 12:55 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a motor vehicle travelling eastbound on County Road 124 at County Road 29, Guelph-Eramosa. The motor vehicle was observed to be swerving within the lane before swerving abruptly to the shoulder at which time the officer conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Fifty-six-year-old Alexander Themelis of Guelph has been charged with over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Sept. 29, 2017 to answer to the charge.
