On July 30, 2021, at 8:42 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Guelph Police Service in regards to an erratic driver in the area of Goodwin Drive and Farley Drive in the City of Guelph. The motor vehicle was observed swerving, crossing over the lane and going onto the shoulder.

At 8:48 p.m., police located vehicle parked on the side of the road in the same area. A traffic stop was initiated and police began speaking with the adult male driver. While the officer was standing at the driver’s side window, the male suddenly put the vehicle in drive, turned to the left and accelerated away at a high rate of speed, coming within a foot of striking the officer. The vehicle was then observed fleeing the area at a high rate of speed without stopping at a posted stop sign at a nearby intersection.

Police attempted to catch up to the fleeing vehicle, but the pursuit was immediately terminated due to a concern for public safety.

On Aug. 1, at 3:44 a.m., police located the male in the same area, and he was subsequently arrested.

A 36-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance

  • Flight from police

  • Drive while under suspension

He was transported to Guelph Police Service station and held for a bail hearing.

He was subsequently released and will appear in court on Aug. 20.
