Driver in medical distress strikes senior

On Saturday, July 22, 2017 at approximately 2 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision involving a person being struck by a motor vehicle on Main Street, Erin.

Initial reports indicated that a northbound Ford Focus had drifted in its lane and struck an 80 year old man standing next to a parked car before driving from the scene.

OPP as well as Town of Erin Fire and Emergency Services and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Services attended and treated one male patient with minor injuries.

OPP located the driver who was in medical distress and transported by EMS to local hospital. The collision was deemed to be the result of the driver's medical situation and not driver error.

The road was closed briefly.
