Driver nearly hits police cruiser

Impaired driving and obstruct charges result after he attempts to flee on foot

On the 19th of October, 2019 at approximately 2:55 a.m., officers were conducting routine patrol on Carden Street when they observed a vehicle reversing very quickly out of a parking spot.

Police had to use a siren to alert the driver, who narrowly missed the police vehicle. 

Concerned for public safety, police attempted to speak to the driver. The driver suddenly fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued and the driver was eventually apprehended.

After briefly speaking to the male, police demanded a roadside sample of his breath for analysis. The male failed said analysis and was arrested.

The 31-year-old Guelph male was charged with impaired driving – BAC at or above 80 and obstruct police.
