Driver of stolen vehicle charged after police find drugs, loaded handgun

On Oct. 17, 2019, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Guelph police received a driving complaint from a concerned citizen who reported a dark-coloured Hyundai was swerving all over the road. A licence plate was obtained and relayed to police.

At 8:47 p.m., police were able to locate the vehicle in the parking lot of a south end hotel. Police blocked the vehicle and located a lone occupant inside. Investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen, thus the male was arrested. The vehicle was then searched and it is alleged police found drugs and a loaded handgun in the vehicle.

As a result of this investigation, a 29-year-old Fergus man was charged with drug and firearm related offences, some of which are:
    •    Possession of stolen property over $5,000
    •    Occupant of stolen motor vehicle
    •    Possession of weapons for dangerous purpose
    •    Unauthorized possession of firearm
    •    Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
    •    Two counts of breaching a probation order
    •    Two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking under the CDSA (alleged to be methamphetamine and cocaine)

Total street value of drugs seized is estimated to be $9,700.

The male was held for a bail hearing.
