Driver pulls a U-turn before RIDE check. Charges follow

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA - On Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) Check on Highway 7 between Guelph and Kitchener.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. the driver of a grey sedan was travelling on Highway 7 towards the R.I.D.E. check when they made a sharp U-turn.

Officers stopped the male driver and while speaking with him formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Thirty-seven-year-old David Glen Houston of Guelph has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Jan. 8, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) Check on Roszell Road, south-west of Guelph. At approximately 11 a.m., the driver of a black sedan entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Sixty-three-year-old John H. Bricker of Cambridge has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Jan. 8, 2019.
