A Guelph man and woman are both facing criminal charges following a vehicle rollover Saturday morning, Guelph police report.
Approximately 4:45 a.m. police were called to a collision on Bagot Street. A witness reported a car hit a parked vehicle and flipped onto its roof, and the driver got out and walked away.
While officers were on scene they were approached by a female who claimed she had been driving, however several witnesses had described a male suspect.
Officers located the true driver at a residence nearby, however the female continued to obstruct the investigation by providing false information. The male was believed to be impaired by drugs and after performing poorly on sobriety tests was transported to the police station, where a drug recognition expert concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired. Investigation also determined he is on an undertaking with a condition not to occupy the driver’s seat of any vehicle.
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop at a collision and breaching an undertaking. He remains in custody and will appear in bail court Wednesday.
A 29-year-old Guelph woman is charged with obstructing police.
Also this weekend, a 69-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving following a driving complaint Friday afternoon. A witness reported a vehicle being driven erratically, and the driver then exiting the vehicle and going into a business while only wearing one shoe.
Officers spoke to the driver and detected a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
