Fergus man accused of driving more than 65 km/h over speed limit

Investigation determined that the vehicle was also uninsured

On Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was conducting radar while travelling northbound on Highway 6 near the Sixth Line of Guelph-Eramosa Township. The officer observed a white sedan travelling southbound enter into the oncoming lane to pass another motor vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

Further investigation revealed that the motor vehicle was uninsured.

Thirty-two-year-old Christopher Wilson of Fergus has been charged with racing a motor vehicle and drive left of centre on curve contrary to the Highway Traffic Act as well as drive motor vehicle - no insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov, 21, 2018 to answer to his charges. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
