Fergus man charged with driving more than 55 km/h over speed limit

Vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On June 25, 2019 at approximately 7:45 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar while travelling southbound on Wellington Road 7. 

The officer observed a blue sport utility vehicle (SUV) travelling southbound, approaching the cruiser from the rear, at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h. The vehicle overtook the cruiser and was subsequently pulled over.

Fifty-nine-year-old Simon Smith of Fergus has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Offences Court on Sept. 4, 2019. The driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
