On March 21, 2018 at approximately 11:07 p.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported house fire with smoke showing from the rear of 57 Merion St.

Arriving at the scene, firefighters found light smoke coming from the rear of the home in the eave area of the roof.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. Damage to the home was contained to the rear wall of the single storey home and the roof above since it needed to be cut open to stop further fire extension.

There were no injuries to firefighting personnel or the homeowners who had self-evacuated before the arrival of the Guelph Fire Department.

The cause of the fire, along with a damage estimate, is under investigation by the Guelph Fire Investigation Bureau and ESSA.

The Guelph Fire Department would like to thank the assistance of Guelph Wellington EMS, Guelph Police Services, and Waterworks.
