Four drivers charged with impaired driving New Year's Eve

Three men and one woman will be without their vehicles and drivers licenses for a while, in addition to facing criminal charges

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Dec. 30, 2017 at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a single vehicle collision on Bellefield Crescent, Town of Arthur. It was reported that a 2007 Nissan had driven into a parked car at this location. The accused attempted to drive away however became stuck in a snowbank.

OPP attended the crash and while speaking with the male driver, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired. He was arrested and a search incident to arrest located a quantity of marihuana. He transported to a local OPP Detachment for testing.

Eighteen-year-old Ian Wayne Gorman of Arthur has been charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and drug. He was also charged with possession of marijuana under 30 grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor and novice driver with blood-alcohol content above zero. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Jan. 25, 2018 to answer to the charges.

On Dec. 31, 2017 at approximately 1:40 a.m., OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Parkway south of Wellington Street, City of Guelph. A female operating a 2005 Lexus entered the R.I.D.E program.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption and impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

Twenty-eight-year-old Diana Sulaiman of Bradford has been charged with impaired driving, drive over 80 and driving with open liquor. She is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Feb. 2, 2018 to answer to the charges. A 90-day administrative driver's Licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Dec. 30, 2017 at approximately 12 a.m., OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Brock Road near Cockburn Street, Township of Puslinch. A male operating a 2015 Volkswagen entered the R.I.D.E program.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption and impairment. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

Twenty-nine-year-old Alexander Veale of Kitchener has been charged with drive with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Feb. 2, 2018 to answer to the charges. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Dec. 27, 2017 at approximately 12:25 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a possible drunk driver. It was reported that the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was showing signs of impairment. The OPP located and stopped the driver on County Road 22, Town of Erin.

While speaking with the male driver, officers formed the belief that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for testing.

Fifty-eight-year-old Andrzej Kruszewski of East Garafraxa has been charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol, drive with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, fail to surrender drivers licence and operate motor vehicle with no insurance. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Jan. 16, 2018.
