Four drivers face impaired charges

All four had their licences suspended and vehicles impounded

On June 3, 2017 at approximately 11 p.m. the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of a possible drunk driver leaving the Guelph Lake Conservation Area near Guelph.

OPP officers located and stopped the vehicle and while speaking with the female driver, formed the opinion that she was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was not equipped with an ignition interlock device which the driver was required under her driving conditions. She was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

44-year-old Monika Irena Zieba of Guelph has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and for driving a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device (as mandated) contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. She is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 14, 2017 to answer to the charges.

On June 3, 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway, near College Avenue, Guelph. At approximately 1:06 a.m. the driver of a Blue Kia Sorento entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the male driver officers formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

54-year-old William Francis Keleher of Guelph has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 11, 2017 to answer to the charges.

Check on Conservation Road in the Township of Guelph/Eramosa. At approximately 9:40 p.m. the driver of a 2014 Hyundai Sante Fe entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the male driver the officer formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

54-year-old David Matson of Kitchener has been charged with driving with over 80 and impaired driving contrary to the Criminal Code and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 14, 2017.

On June 3, 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) Check on Conservation Road in the Township of Guelph/Eramosa.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. police observed a motor vehicle traveling eastbound towards the R.I.D.E. check, then stop, turn around and proceed in the opposite direction. Police followed the motor vehicle, a grey 2001 Toyota Camry, and conducted a traffic stop.

While speaking with the male driver the officer formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

48-year-old Robert Schmidt of Tiny Township has been charged with driving with over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on June 23, 2017. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
