Four racing charges laid over the weekend

CITY OF GUELPH - Wellington County OPP was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph over the weekend and charged four drivers with racing in separate incidents.

On Apr. 21, 2017 at approximately 8:35 p.m. an officer observed a male driving a 2017 Audi RS7 travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 161 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

43-year-old Harjinder Grewal of Kitchener has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 17, 2017.

On Apr. 22, 2017 at approximately 11 p.m. an officer observed a female driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 144km/hr in an 80 km/h zone.

22-year-old Olivia Baldini of Brampton Kitchener has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 17, 2017.

On Apr. 23, 2017 at approximately 3:45 a.m. an officer observed a male driving a 2007 Mazda 3 travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 133km/hr in an 80 km/h zone.

29-year-old Cameron Williamson of Guelph has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 17, 2017.

On Apr. 23, 2017 at approximately 10 a.m. an officer observed a male driving a 2008 Mercedes SLZ 3 travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 135km/hr in an 80 km/h zone

21-year-old Hamid Lalani of Cambridge has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Jun. 7, 2017.

In each of the cases the driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
