WELLINGTON COUNTY - On July 10, 2017, OPP were contacted regarding an online rental home fraud attempt.
The complainant reportedly posted an ad on Kijiji looking for a house to rent in the Guelph area. The complainant was contacted by an individual claiming that they were in the United States but had a property for rent in the Guelph area.
The suspect sent pictures, waived any kind of interview and advised once they received money, keys would be mailed.
The complainant then located the proper ad for the rental place online and compared photos of the home with photos the suspect had sent her.
The photos did not represent the home in question. Fortunately she recognized that the person she was dealing with was trying to scam her. No money was exchanged.
