Shoplifter, two-vehicle collision

The following is a news release issued by the Guelph Police Service:

On Feb. 1, 2018 at 11:55 a.m., Guelph Police attended to a south end store after a Loss Prevention Officer had a male resist arrest and flee the scene when he tried to arrest him for shoplifting.  Police were able to locate the man a short distance away and he was arrested.

Robert Sevigny, 53-years of Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000, assault with intent to resist, escape lawful custody and breach of probation. He will appear in court on March 16, 2018.

On Feb. 1, 2018 at 12:55 p.m., Guelph Police went to Woodlawn Road West and Elmira Road for a two car collision. It is alleged that a 2008 Chevrolet driven by a 71-year-old Elora man exited a private drive and struck a 2014 Mercedes driven by a 61-year-old Calgary woman. She received minor injuries.

The Elora man has been charged with fail to yield from private drive under the Highway Traffic Act.
