On June 16, 2016 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Guelph Police Drug Enforcement Unit observed a male on Carden Street conducting what appeared to be a drug transaction. Continued observations saw this male meet with another man

Downtown drug arrests

On June 16, 2016 at approximately 11:00 a.m., the Guelph Police Drug Enforcement Unit observed a male on Carden Street conducting what appeared to be a drug transaction. Continued observations saw this male meet with another man and assist him with injecting a substance into his body. Police approached the males and arrested them. A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of 80 Percocet pills, 2-100mg Hydro Morph pills and cash on one of the males.

Dennis Ryan, 45 years old of Guelph has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear in court on July 26, 2016.

Gary Lima, 45 years old of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on July 26, 2016.

Theft from cars

On June 16, 2016 the Guelph Police received six reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Lyon Avenue, Home Street, Bailey Avenue, Monarch Road, Metcalfe Street and Westwood Road. These thefts included wallets, a purse, a plate sticker and gas was siphoned from a vehicle. Police are seeing a greater number of these thefts turning into bigger investigations when stolen credit cards get used at various businesses.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. In the area of Gordon Street and Maltby Road from 7:50 a.m. - 9:20 a.m. - 10 tickets issued.

In the area of College Avenue and Rodney Boulevard from 9:10 a.m. - 11 a.m. - 11 tickets issued.

In the area of Downey Road from 9:35 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. - 10 tickets issued.

Stop sign at 10 Woodlawn Road East from 9:10 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. – 7 tickets issued.

Commercial motor vehicle checks on Speedvale Avenue and Royal Road from 9 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. – 5 tickets issued.
