On June 8, 2017 at 10:45 p.m., a Richardson Street resident caught a male stealing items from his motor vehicle.

Male arrested after stealing from car

On June 8, 2017 at 10:45 p.m., a Richardson Street resident caught a male stealing items from his motor vehicle. When confronted, the male suspect fled on foot and the Guelph Police Canine Unit was called to track the suspect. Canine General tracked the suspect through several yards and located the male hiding where he was arrested. The stolen property was recovered and returned to the owner.

A 34-year-old Guelph resident was charged with theft under $5,000, trespass by night and breach probation. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 9, 2017

Grocery store thefts

On Apr. 7, internal video equipment at a west-end grocery store recorded a male taking approximately $200 of meat products and leave the store without paying. Police were contacted and viewed the video of the suspect.

The next evening police on June 8, police alertly observed this male getting off a city bus and then watched as he entered a south-end grocery store with a backpack. The male was followed into the store and as he was being watched by police, he was seen putting a large quantity of meat, valued at approximately $220.00, into the backpack and leave the store without paying. He was then arrested outside of the store.

The 31-year-old Guelph man was charged with two counts of theft and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody to appear in bail court.
