Guelph Police Service dealt with 227 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Shoplifter resists arrest
On March 21, 2019 at 4:35 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Paisley Road business to assist with a shoplifter. Investigation determined that a man pushing an empty baby stroller through the store had placed items underneath it and left the store without making payment. The Loss Prevention Officer stopped the male and attempted to arrest him. A struggled ensued as the man resisted. A search subsequent to his arrest found a concealed knife.

The 37-year-old Guelph man has been charged with theft under $5,000, resist arrest and carry a concealed weapon. He will appear in court on April 30, 2019.

Guelph man arrested on warrant after short foot chase
On March 22, 2019 at 1:35 a.m., Guelph Police on general patrol in the area of Woolwich Street observed a male known to have an existing arrest warrant. Police advised the man he was under arrest at which time he pulled away from police and ran.  He was arrested a short distance away.

The 49-year-old Guelph man has been charged with resist arrest and fail to appear in court. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
