Guelph cop charged in connection with alleged in-custody assault

Guelph Police officer charged

On September 19, 2016 officers with the Guelph Police were involved with a member of the public who was taken into police custody. 

It is alleged an officer assaulted this citizen while in police custody.  An internal investigation was launched and for transparency purposes, an external police service was assigned to conduct a criminal investigation. 

As a result of the criminal investigation, on December 30, 2016 Const. Corey McArthur was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm in relation to the incident. 

At the commencement of the internal investigation, Const. McArthur was re-assigned to administrative duties. 

Const. McArthur was released with a first court date of February 10, 2017. 

Const. McArthur is a 15-year veteran of the Guelph Police.

No further details of the alleged assault will be provided as the matter is before the courts.
