Guelph driver charged with impaired

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On July 9, 2020 at approximately 3:40 a.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a motor vehicle on Highway 6 near Side Road 6 for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation.

During the course of the investigation, officers formed the opinion that the driver had consumed alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Ruperto Martinez, 29 years old of Guelph has been charged with impaired operation - 80 plus (mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code and Racing contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Sept. 11, 2020.
