Guelph man accused of driving 65 km/h over speed limit

He and two others face racing charges in unrelated incidents

On Oct. 25, 2019 at approximately 2 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Expressway in the city of Guelph. The officer observed a grey hatch-back travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

As a result, Darwin Nelson, 36 years old of Guelph, has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice - Provincial Offences Court on Dec. 18, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Oct. 15, 2019 at approximately 7 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7 south of Elora. The officer observed a white pick-up truck travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

As a result, Martin Alvie Hilton, 30 years old of Harriston, has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice - Provincial Offences Court on Dec. 18, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Oct. 29, 2019 at approximately 8:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109, east of Teviotdale. The officer observed a Black coupe travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h.

As a result, Gary Hirst, 54 years old of Etobicoke, has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The defendant is scheduled to appear in Guelph at the Ontario Court of Justice - Provincial Offences Court on Jan. 5, 2020.
