Guelph man accused of using bear spray on dogs

In the early morning hours today it was reported to police by concerned family members that a man returned to a Clough Crescent home and beat one of the family dogs and then sprayed that and another one of their dogs with bear spray.

When police arrived to investigate, there was a strong odor of the bear spray at the house and the man in question was not cooperative with police.

The man was arrested and a small puppy and another dog were located in cages, shivering and smelling of the bear spray. One of the dogs had a cut above an eye.

Both dogs were given over to the Humane Society to have their injuries treated and for further care.

Naymatullah Sayfi, 22 years of age from Guelph is charged administering a noxious substance, animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance. He was later released to appear before the court on Jun. 9, 2017.
