Clifford man charged following assault with a hammer

TOWNSHIP OF MINTO - On May 13, 2017, members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an assault that had just occurred in a garage behind 14 William Street North, Town of Clifford. Two men were assaulted by another man following an argument.

Upon investigation police learned that two men were involved in a physical altercation after a night of drinking. The two men were separated and one male left.

Approximately 30 minutes later the male returned to the garage and (allegedly) struck one of the victims on the head with a hammer. A third male attempted to intervene and was also struck on the head with the hammer. The victims received minor injuries.

29-year-old Eli Cook of Clifford was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 11, 2017.
