INNISFIL - On Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021 at approximately 8:15 p.m., the South Simcoe Police Service was called to a report of a collision involving a pickup truck on the ice on Lake Simcoe in Innisfil.
The investigation determined that the truck drove at a high rate of speed off the end of Shore Acres Drive, hit a pressure crack protruding upward and became airborne before the vehicle landed back down on the ice. The driver was transported to a local hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was subsequently transferred to a Toronto trauma centre.
Thirty-eight-year-old Andrew Benedict of Guelph was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired - excess blood alcohol, and dangerous operation. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
