Guelph man seen setting kitchen fire on Darnell Drive, police say

On Dec. 7, 2018 at approximately 7:40 p.m., a Guelph Police officer attended an address on Darnell Drive to conduct a follow up on an investigation. Upon arrival, the officer noticed smoke coming from the side of the residence. Guelph Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire.

It is alleged that the officer saw a male setting the fire on the stove in the kitchen. The same male fled on foot and was arrested by police after a brief foot chase. None of the other residents were home at the time and the damage was minimal.

A 20-year-old Guelph male is charged with arson - disregard for human life, mischief under $5,000 and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
