Guelph police arrest pair in raid: shooting suspect and murder suspect

A police raid in Kitchener by Guelph police not only resulted in the arrest of a Cambridge murder suspect from a weekend incident, but also a separate suspect wanted for a shooting in Guelph last October.

In October 2021 the Guelph police were called to a Silvercreek Parkway South address where there was a report of a shooting. A victim was found to have serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police initiated an investigation into the incident. As a result of the lengthy investigation, a suspect was identified that did not reside in Guelph.

On Thursday morning, the Guelph police Tactical Unit executed a search warrant in Kitchener relevant to the suspect in that shooting.  As a result of the search warrant, a 28-year-old Kitchener male was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and multiple firearms charges.  A firearm, ammunition, drugs and the stolen vehicle were seized at the residence.

Additionally, a male youth was found inside the residence who was wanted by Waterloo Regional Police for first-degree murder. The youth was arrested and custody was transferred to Waterloo Regional Police Service.  

The 28-year-old Kitchener male and the youth were additionally charged jointly with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking meth, possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, further firearms charges and breaches. Approximately $50,000 worth of controlled substances were seized.

The Kitchener male was held for a bail hearing.
