Guelph police issue 178 open liquor tickets during homecoming

In preparation for Homecoming 2018, the Guelph Police Service developed an operational plan to ensure an appropriate response to increased demands related to Homecoming.    

The strategies included enhanced staffing to allow us to be both proactive and reactive in anticipation of increased calls for service. The emphasis was on strict but fair enforcement in our south end neighbourhoods where we have a high concentration of student housing. Our plan also accounted for responding to potential increased activity on Chancellor’s Way and in our downtown core. Guelph By-law also enhanced their staffing in response to the Homecoming day.

From Saturday, Sept. 22 at 6 a.m., until Sunday, Sept. 23 at 6 a.m., Guelph Police dealt with 586 calls for service. Below are the stats for Guelph Police and Guelph By-Law that reflect this timeline:

Impaired/over 80 arrests - 3
Intoxication arrests - 9
Open liquor tickets - 178
Public urination tickets - 16
Noise complaint tickets - 12
Nuisance party charges - 10
Total noise complaints investigated - 32
