Guelph police are investigating four commercial burglaries, reported in a 24-hour period, in which businesses had their front windows smashed to gain entry.

It is not known if any of the incidents are related.

At 7 a.m. Monday, a passerby noticed the front glass door of a business on Macdonell Street had been smashed. On social media that business identified itself as Wild Rose consignment store. Officers cleared the business and did not find anyone inside, but a display cabinet inside was also smashed and product missing. It is believed the break-in occurred sometime overnight.

No damage or loss estimate is available. The incident is still under investigation.

A few minutes after the Macdonell Street call, police were notified of a break-in at a business on Edinburgh Road South near Forest Street. Once again staff had arrived at work to find the front glass door smashed. A small amount of cash and product was stolen.

Shortly after noon Monday, officers were dispatched to a business on Speedvale Avenue West near Silvercreek Parkway North. An unknown suspect had smashed a glass door to gain entry and made off with the cash register. The cost to fix the door was estimated to be $300.

At 2:17 a.m. Tuesday, the Guelph Police Service was called to a business on Kortright Road West near Edinburgh Road South, where two parties had smashed the glass front door to gain entry before making off with merchandise.

Investigation revealed two people arrived about 1:46 a.m. in a light-coloured SUV and smashed the glass front door. Both entered the business and removed a number of items. One suspect is described as male, six feet, wearing all black, a studded belt and Adidas sandals with white socks. The second is described as possibly female, 5’9”, wearing all black clothing, a grey toque and black Nike shoes. Both were also wearing face coverings.

The incident is still under investigation.
