Guelph police say they are investigating after a male reportedly used an envelope full of counterfeit bills to buy an iPad from a Guelph female.

The victim called police about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. She had advertised an iPad for sale on a popular buying and selling site, and was contacted by a male. They agreed on a price and Wednesday evening the male attended her residence in the city’s south end. He handed the seller an envelope of cash and quickly left with the iPad. The seller quickly realized the bills were fake and tried to follow the male, who left the area in a white car.

The male is described as black, in his 20s and was wearing a black jacket, black toque, black-rimmed glasses and Nike shoes. He was a passenger in a white car, possibly a Dodge Charger or Dart.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Cst. Samantha Worthington at 519-824-1212, ext. 7240, email her at [email protected], leave an anonymous tip for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-22-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
