Just before 2 a.m. today,  a male known to police was seen riding a high-end DeVinci mountain bike with another male in the area of Eramosa and Arthur Street without any lights. When the officer turned around to stop the males and speak with them, they sped away into Goldie Mill Park.

The males were found hiding in the park and fled again. One was taken into custody a short distance away after a struggle with police.

The male was found to be in possession of a drug believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana as well as large prohibited knife and retractable baton. Investigation revealed that the bike in question was reported stolen in July.

The 21-year-old Guelph man is charged with a total of 17 offences including weapon, drug, resist arrest and breach of court ordered condition charges. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court later today.
