Hammer-wielding man arrested downtown

Charged with possession of a weapon and uttering death threats

A Guelph man was arrested Monday afternoon after someone was seen downtown waving a hammer while yelling threats.

Guelph police were called approximately 3:15 p.m. to the area of Wyndham Street South and Surrey Street East for reports of a man swinging a hammer while yelling obscenities and making threats against the Crown attorney’s office. The man also damaged an advertising sign.

He was located in the area and arrested. A 36-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering death threats and mischief under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday.
