A 40-year-old Hillsburgh man faces several charges following a collision elsewhere and a traffic stop in Guelph on Thursday afternoon.
At about 5:25 p.m. Guelph police learned about a vehicle which was involved in a collision in another jurisdiction seen heading toward the city. The suspect vehicle was spotted and stopped a short time later on Woodlawn Road West.
Officers noted the vehicle had “significant front-end damage” to the point the bumper was “partially melted from rubbing against the tire,” explains a police news release. “The driver appeared confused and said he was not aware of a collision.”
The driver was arrested and taken to the police station where an alcohol/breath test allegedly showed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
As a result, a Hillsburgh man is charged with impaired operation, failing to stop after a collision and driving with an expired licence.
In addition to the charges, his licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week.
